Why I'm Annoyed at the Trump Movement

Over the past few decades, we've see the following happen:

1. A group on the A-list of the Left has a problem.
2. There's a plausible solution that doesn't really work.
3. Libertarians (including me) explain that it doesn't work.
4. Conservatives cheer for the libertarians.
5. Leftists attribute the conservative–libertarian opposition to hatred of the group on line 1.

Now we see a similar phenomenon:

1. A group on the A-list of the Right has a problem.
2. There's a plausible solution that doesn't really work.
3. Libertarians (including me) explain that it doesn't work.
4. Conservatives claim we betrayed them.
5. Libertarians realize the Leftists on line 5 of the first list may have been right … at least about conservatives.

But wait, there's more…

We have recently seen a wide variety of claims by conservatives: On the one hand, they claim working-class Americans are irreplaceable; on the other hand, they claim working-class Americans are being replaced. Should there be a debate between the two factions?

There are more claims by conservatives: On the one hand, they claim hiring illegal aliens is some kind of giveaway; on the other hand, they claim hiring illegal aliens is a matter of slave labor. Should there be another debate between the two factions?

And furthermore…

In 2020, posted (about Trump):

He hasn't been nearly as bad as I had feared. The borders haven't slammed shut; there's no trade war with China; and birthright citizenship is still the law.

Sigh.
