Sometimes We Wingnuts Are Too Paranoid
I doubt if the use of an octopus metaphor implies antisemitism. That claim didn't make sense when used by the other side and it doesn't make sense now.
In any case, the first thing that comes to my mind when I see an octopus metaphor is the novel THE OCTOPUS: A Story of California by Frank Norris. Octopus metaphors are so common that there's even a blog devoted to them.

While I agree that the octopus isn't inherently anti-semitic, that doesn't matter.
Here's a golden opportunity to engage in the kind of arcane grievance-mining that liberals love! "You used a symbol which is kind of like something that anti-semites once used! Therefore you are anti-semites and anyone who agrees with you is a NAZI!!!"
They do it all the time, why shouldn't we?
Neither conservatives nor liberals can win an election on their own. We have to appeal to the "mushy middle" as well. Sounding like thin-skinned paranoids is no way to do that.
It might be useful to stake out extreme positions ("I think we should privatize police departments.") in order to move the "Overton Window" but personal attacks don't even do that.
