Having It Both Ways
A few months ago, I said that some people claim that scarcity is inevitable and therefore capitalism is obsolete and that others claim that abundance is inevitable and therefore capitalism is obsolete. I have finally found someone who makes both claims.

I do not make the argument that we are presently or will soon be living in a period of resource scarcity at all. To the contrary, I argue that industrialization has succeeded in largely eliminating the constraints on the production of goods faced by early economic society, and that this is a generally good thing, but that it introduces a whole new set of social problems with which laissez faire economics were never intended to manage.
